Throwback Thursday - K9s United with Debbie Johnson
Welcome to a special Throwback Thursday episode of the Canine Culture Podcast! On this episode, we're revisiting an interview with Debbie Johnson, the founder of K9s United, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting K9 Units across the US.
K9s United was founded in 2015 with a mission to help supplement what's not being met due to budget constraints in K9 Unit funding. Debbie shares with us how the organization works to bridge the gap between what's available and what's needed to support K9 officers, who are selfless heroes.
Despite the different needs of each agency, K9 Units across the US face similar budget constraints. K9s United is working towards a world where every K9 officer has everything they need to survive and thrive.
In addition to their ongoing efforts, K9s United is also hosting an upcoming event, the K9s United 9K for K9s, on April 29th, 2023, at the World Golf Hall of Fame. This annual event includes a 1-mile fun run, a classic 5k, and a challenging 9k, all open to runners and walkers of all levels. The 5k and 9k will be chip-timed, and awards will be given to top runners in each category.
If you can't make it out to the event, don't worry! K9s United is offering a "NO EXCUSE" Virtual 5k option, allowing you to participate and support the cause from wherever you are.
The K9s United 9K for K9s event is not just a race; it's a day of fun and activities for the whole family, including arts and crafts for kids, a K-9 photo booth, and a K-9 demonstration.
